While Peanut had many friends at the VA, he was particularly close to one veteran. In the span of just a few months, they lost three close friends. The other veteran told Peanut every morning, "don't leave me," and Peanut promised he wouldn't. This other veteran died almost three weeks ago. Peanut told me this story a few days before his own death, saying "I promised I wouldn't leave him and I didn't." There were a lot of tears for this wonderful man.
